How pay-per-impression pricing works

Reviewed by Eran Betzalel, founder · 2026-06-26

BoostPop charges per 1,000 impressions delivered to your store visitors — you only pay for what you use. There is no flat monthly fee on the Pay-As-You-Go plan.

Free allowance

Every billing cycle starts with 5,000 free impressions. Charges only begin after that threshold is crossed. For many smaller stores, the free allowance covers all or most of a typical month.

Tiered rates

Once you exceed 5,000 impressions, usage is billed in marginal tiers by monthly impression volume — each band’s rate applies only to the impressions that fall in it, the way income tax brackets work. The per-1,000 rate varies by band:

Monthly impressionsRate per 1,000
First 5,000Free
5,001 – 20,000$1.50
20,001 – 50,000$0.40
50,001 – 100,000$0.15
100,001 – 200,000$0.05
200,001 – 500,000$0.25
500,001 – 1,000,000$0.40
1,000,000+$0.30

Because billing is marginal, the impressions in each band are always charged at that band’s rate — growing into a higher band never re-prices the impressions below it. Every band stays below a fifth of a cent per impression.

Spending cap

Your account has a spending cap — a ceiling on how much BoostPop can charge within a single Shopify billing cycle. The cap starts at $100. You can increase or decrease it at any time from the BoostPop dashboard; Shopify will ask you to approve the change. This cap is enforced by Shopify, so you will never be charged more than the amount you have approved.

Billing cycle

Your billing cycle is a 30-day window managed by Shopify that begins when you activate the Pay-As-You-Go plan and renews every 30 days. It is not tied to the calendar month. Usage resets — and the 5,000 free impressions renew — at the start of each new cycle.

90-day free trial

New Pay-As-You-Go subscribers receive a 90-day trial period. No usage charges are applied during the trial, though the free impression allowance still applies to usage counts. After the trial ends, billing resumes automatically at the rates above.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as an impression?
An impression is recorded each time a BoostPop widget (bar or popup) is shown to a visitor. One visitor seeing three different widgets in one session counts as three impressions.
What happens if I hit my spending cap?
When your spending cap is reached, BoostPop stops serving widgets for the rest of the billing cycle. Widgets resume automatically at the start of the next cycle. You can raise your cap at any time in the BoostPop dashboard — Shopify will prompt you to approve the new cap amount.
