BoostPop works with Shopify Sidekick

Shopify Sidekick is the assistant built into your Shopify admin, and with BoostPop you can ask it which of your popups, announcement bars and sales notifications are turned on, how they are performing, and whether BoostPop is showing on your store. You can also create a popup or an announcement bar from a template, turn sales notifications on, and turn a widget on or off, all from Sidekick.

Illustrative example. Sidekick answers from your own store.

Three questions to start with

Ask in your own words. These work well for a first try.

  • Which of my BoostPop popups are turned on?
  • How is my popup doing in the last 30 days?
  • Is BoostPop showing on my store?

Name BoostPop in the request. A plain request can go to Shopify's own theme tools, so "Create a free shipping bar with BoostPop" is the safer way to ask.

What Sidekick can do with BoostPop

Six things you can ask for, across popups, announcement bars and sales notifications.

  • Answer questions about your widgets

Ask which popups, announcement bars and sales notifications are turned on, and how each one is doing: views, clicks, signups, and revenue where it applies.

  • Check that BoostPop is showing

Ask whether BoostPop is showing on your store, without opening the theme editor to look.

  • Create a popup or an announcement bar

Ask for one and Sidekick opens a BoostPop page with a preview of the template. Nothing changes until you click Turn it on, or Open in editor to keep it off and customize it first.

  • Turn sales notifications on

Ask Sidekick to turn on your sales notifications, the notifications built from your store's real activity.

  • Turn a widget on or off

Ask Sidekick to turn a popup, an announcement bar or a sales notification on or off.

  • Open a widget's editor

Ask Sidekick to open a widget and it takes you to that widget's editor in BoostPop.

What stays in the editor

Sidekick opens the editor for you. The changes are yours to make.

Sidekick cannot change a widget's text, design or targeting by itself. When you want a change like that, it opens the widget's editor in BoostPop, where you make the change and save it.

The same goes for a new widget. Sidekick opens a page with a preview of the template, and nothing changes until you click Turn it on. Click Open in editor instead and the widget stays off while you customize it.

Step by step? The Sidekick help article walks through each request.

How it works

  1. Open Sidekick in your Shopify admin

Type your request and name BoostPop in it. "Create a free shipping bar with BoostPop" goes to BoostPop, while a plain request can go to Shopify's own theme tools.

  2. Allow Sidekick to use BoostPop

Sidekick asks "Allow Sidekick to access BoostPop ...?". Choose Yes, or "Yes, and don't ask again" so it stops asking.

  3. Read the answer or review the preview

A question gets an answer about your store. A request to create a widget opens a BoostPop page with a preview, where you decide whether to turn it on.

Frequently asked questions

What can I ask Sidekick about BoostPop?
Ask which of your popups, announcement bars and sales notifications are turned on, how they are performing, and whether BoostPop is showing on your store. You can also ask Sidekick to create a popup or an announcement bar from a template, turn your sales notifications on, turn a widget on or off, or open a widget's editor.
Does Sidekick change my widgets without asking?
Sidekick asks your permission before it uses BoostPop. When it creates a popup or an announcement bar, it opens a BoostPop page with a preview, and nothing changes until you click Turn it on. Open in editor keeps the widget off while you customize it.
Can Sidekick change the text or design of a widget?
No. Sidekick cannot change a widget's text, design or targeting by itself. It opens the widget's editor in BoostPop, where you make the change and save it.
Why should I say BoostPop in my request?
Sidekick works with many tools. A plain request, such as "Add a free shipping bar", can go to Shopify's own theme tools, so naming BoostPop ("Create a free shipping bar with BoostPop") makes sure the request goes to the app.
Do I need to set anything up to use BoostPop with Sidekick?
Install BoostPop from the Shopify App Store, then open Sidekick in your Shopify admin. Before Sidekick uses BoostPop it asks you to allow it, and you choose Yes, or "Yes, and don't ask again".

Add BoostPop, then ask Sidekick

Install BoostPop on your store, open Sidekick, and ask which of your popups are turned on. Free to install.
