Ask Sidekick about BoostPop
Reviewed by Eran Betzalel, founder · 2026-10-21
Shopify Sidekick is the assistant built into your Shopify admin. BoostPop works with it, so you can ask Sidekick about your popups, announcement bars and sales notifications without opening BoostPop first, and you can create or turn on a widget from the same conversation.
Name BoostPop in what you ask. Sidekick works with many tools, and a plain request such as “Add a free shipping bar” can go to Shopify’s own theme tools. “Create a free shipping bar with BoostPop” tells Sidekick which app you mean.
Questions to start with
These three questions work well for a first try:
- Which of my BoostPop popups are turned on?
- How is my popup doing in the last 30 days?
- Is BoostPop showing on my store?
When Sidekick asks to use BoostPop, choose Yes, or “Yes, and don’t ask again” so it stops asking.
What Sidekick can do
- Tell you which popups, announcement bars and sales notifications are turned on.
- Report how they perform: views, clicks, signups, and revenue where it applies.
- Tell you whether BoostPop is showing on your store.
- Create a popup or an announcement bar from a template. Sidekick opens a BoostPop page with a preview, and nothing changes until you click Turn it on. Click Open in editor instead to keep it off and customize it first.
- Turn your sales notifications on.
- Turn a widget on or off.
- Open a widget’s editor.
What stays in the editor
Sidekick cannot change a widget’s text, design or targeting by itself. For that it opens the widget’s editor in BoostPop, where you make the change and save it. Targeting is covered in the targeting help article.
Turn a new widget on
After Sidekick creates a widget, you choose. Click Turn it on on the preview page and the widget starts showing. Click Open in editor and the widget stays off while you customize it, then turn it on in BoostPop, or ask Sidekick to turn it on.
New to BoostPop? Add BoostPop from the Shopify App Store, then open Sidekick and ask your first question. For an overview of what Sidekick and BoostPop can do together, see BoostPop works with Sidekick.
- 1
Open Sidekick and name BoostPop
In your Shopify admin, open Sidekick and type your request and name BoostPop in it, for example "Create a free shipping bar with BoostPop". A plain request can go to Shopify's own theme tools instead of BoostPop.
- 2
Allow Sidekick to use BoostPop
Before it uses BoostPop, Sidekick asks "Allow Sidekick to access BoostPop ...?" (the exact words vary with the request). Choose Yes, or "Yes, and don't ask again" so it stops asking. If you choose Yes, Sidekick asks again the next time it needs BoostPop.
- 3
Read the answer
For a question, Sidekick answers with what BoostPop reports for your store: which widgets are turned on, how they are doing, or whether BoostPop is showing.
- 4
Create from a template
To create a popup or an announcement bar, ask for it, for example "Create an email popup with BoostPop". Sidekick opens a BoostPop page with a preview of the template. Nothing changes in your store until you click Turn it on.
- 5
Customize before it goes on
To change anything first, click Open in editor on that page. The widget stays off while you edit, and you turn it on when you are ready, in BoostPop or by asking Sidekick to turn it on.
Frequently asked questions
- What can I ask Sidekick about BoostPop?
- Ask which of your BoostPop popups, announcement bars and sales notifications are turned on, how they are performing (views, clicks, signups, and revenue where it applies), and whether BoostPop is showing on your store. Three good starting questions are "Which of my BoostPop popups are turned on?", "How is my popup doing in the last 30 days?" and "Is BoostPop showing on my store?".
- What can Sidekick do in BoostPop?
- Beyond answering, Sidekick can create a popup or an announcement bar from a template, turn on your sales notifications, turn a widget on or off, and open a widget's editor. Creating a widget opens a BoostPop page with a preview, and nothing changes until you click Turn it on.
- Can Sidekick change my widget's text, design or targeting?
- No. Sidekick cannot change the text, design or targeting of a widget by itself. When you want a change like that, it opens the widget's editor in BoostPop, where you make the change and save it.
- Why did Sidekick not use BoostPop for my request?
- A plain request, such as "Add a free shipping bar", can go to Shopify's own theme tools. Name BoostPop in the request ("Create a free shipping bar with BoostPop") so Sidekick knows which app you mean.
- Why does Sidekick ask for permission?
- Before Sidekick uses an app, Shopify asks you to allow it, each time unless you chose not to be asked again. The question reads "Allow Sidekick to access BoostPop ...?". Choose Yes to allow it this time, or "Yes, and don't ask again" so it stops asking.
- Sidekick says BoostPop is not showing on my store. What now?
- Widgets show on your storefront only while the BoostPop app embed is turned on in your theme. Follow the widget not showing article to check it, then ask Sidekick "Is BoostPop showing on my store?" again.
