Social proof

BoostPop social proof shows shoppers small notifications about what is really happening in your store: recent orders, items added to carts, shoppers viewing a product right now, or a product that is running low on stock. There are nine notification types, and each one is built only from your store’s own data.
Because the notifications reflect real activity, they appear once there is something true to show. BoostPop starts recording the activity a type needs when you turn that type on, so a new setup is quiet at first and fills in as real orders, cart adds, and visits arrive. Turn on the types you want early, and see the steps below to set them up.
BoostPop shows one notification at a time, choosing the highest-priority type that has real activity for the page. It waits while a modal is open on the page and moves clear of chat bubbles and cookie bars where it can, so it does not get in the shopper’s way.
- 1
Open the Social Proof page
In your Shopify admin, open BoostPop and click Social Proof in the navigation. The page shows nine tiles, one per notification type: Add to cart, Placed orders, Products in cart, Recent orders, Ordered products, Recent visitors, Live visitors, Low stock, and Hot product. Each tile has an On or Off badge.
- 2
Choose your notification types
Decide which types suit your store. Orders and cart adds build trust on product pages, Live visitors and Recent visitors show browsing interest, and Low stock adds urgency when a tracked variant is running out. You can turn on as many as you like.
- 3
Turn them on
Click Turn on at the bottom of a tile to enable that type with its default wording, or click Quick Start (Enable All) at the top of the page to turn on all nine at once with default wording and page targets. Recording of the activity a type needs starts as soon as it is on.
- 4
Adjust the wording and rules
Click Edit on a tile. For each page type it supports, set the top and bottom lines of the message, and where the type uses a minimum, set the count it needs before it appears. You can also choose which pages show it, the delay before the first message, how long each message stays, the gap between messages, and the position and visibility on desktop and mobile. Save your changes.
- 5
Check it on your storefront
Visit a product page on your store. A notification appears only when there is real activity behind it, so on a new setup you may see nothing at first. The preview in the editor shows sample content so you can check the design, and it does not use your live data.
Frequently asked questions
- Why isn't social proof showing yet?
- Notifications appear only once there is real activity to show, so a new setup starts quiet. BoostPop starts recording the activity a type needs once you turn that type on, and it never fills the gap with made-up numbers or demo messages. Each type has its own trigger: a purchase message needs the next real order, Live visitors needs shoppers browsing a product within the last 30 minutes, and Low stock needs a variant with inventory tracking on that is at 5 or fewer in stock. If a type is on and you still see nothing after your store has had traffic, check that the page type you are testing is switched on for that type, that its minimum count is not set higher than your store reaches, and that you have not already seen or closed that message.
- Does social proof use real data?
- Yes, and only real data. Every notification is built from your own store's orders, cart adds, visitor activity, or inventory. Test orders are ignored, and a cancelled or refunded order drops out of the counts. When nothing qualifies, shoppers see no notification.
- Do the notifications show customer names?
- The Placed orders and Add to cart messages are built from real order and cart details, and by default their wording includes the first name and location of the shopper. You control that wording: edit the message to leave the name and location out, for example so it reads as an anonymous purchase. If you sell to shoppers in the EU or California, consider leaving names and locations out. The count-based types, such as Live visitors and Recent orders, show only numbers.
- Which pages can show social proof?
- Product, collection, cart, and home pages. Each type supports the pages where it makes sense: Low stock works on product and cart pages, and Recent visitors works on product and collection pages. The editor only offers the pages a type supports.
- Why am I seeing a different notification than I expected?
- BoostPop shows one notification type at a time on a page: the highest-priority type that has something real to show. On a product page, Low stock comes first and the visitor counts come last, with the order, cart, and Hot product types in between. If your preferred type has nothing to show yet, the next type with real activity is used instead.
